Patterning in the Psyche & the Natural World:
An Archetypal Perspective

Lecture: Friday, March 18, 2005, 7:30 PM

Nowhere is the confluence and relationship between matter and psyche more clearly expressed than in the formation of patterns.  Existing within both the internal world of the psyche and the outer natural world, archetypal patterns are expressions of an innate ordering process, which gives matter its specific form and design.  We find these deeply textured patterns present within the world of fairytales, myths, and dreams, and we can see similar archetypal patterns expressed in our architectural designs, cities, cultures, and even on a personal level in our choice of spouse, employee, or therapist.

Dr. Conforti’s interdisciplinary work in the field of archetypal pattern recognition draws on developments in the new sciences and Jungian psychology and provides an objective representation of unfolding individual and systematic dramas.  These dramas, when captured in images, dreams, and symbols, offer unique insights into human nature.  These insights can turn our struggles into points of transformation.

Workshop: Saturday, March 19, 2005, 10:00AM – 4:00 PM

In this workshop, we will look at the manifestation of psyche in matter. Building on the material from his evening lecture, Dr. Conforti will explore a rich set of clinical illustrations, including dreams, and the presence and role of archetypes in the cinema.  This discussion, coupled with videos, will give compelling evidence of the workings of psyche in the material world, and will enhance our understanding of the objective psyche’s role in our personal and collective experience.

Dr. Conforti, founder of the Assisi Conferences, has taught at the C.G. Jung Institute-Boston and the C.G. Jung Foundation of New York.  Dr. Conforti lectures in the U.S., abroad and at the C.G. Jung Institute-Zürich. In addition to his clinical practice, he consults to organizations, helping them to identify archetypal patterns. He is the author of Field, Form, and Fate: Patterns in Mind, Nature, & Psyche, Spring Journal Books, 1999.
